Dining Under Arrest: Culinary Liberation at THE KNAST

On 1 August 2026, Michael Zscharschuch and Michelin-starred chef Tim Tanneberger present a summer kitchen party with high-end finger food at various stations, art and aperitivo in the garden

When the pans sizzle in the cell block and the first glasses clink in the summer garden, the time has come: on Saturday, 1 August 2026, from 5 to 9 pm, head chef Michael Zscharschuch and Michelin-starred chef Tim Tanneberger invite you to a grand kitchen party at THE KNAST in Berlin-Lichterfelde. At various stations in the cell block – and, weather permitting, in the garden – the two chefs and their teams will serve extraordinary dishes as hors d'œuvres. Grilled finger food completes the offering, while strong partners such as Nespresso provide the caffeine kick, Weingut Beck contributes magnum bottles and Freixenet accompanies the evening with its aperitivo, bubbles, wine and premium non-alcoholic drinks.

The culinary experience is joined by art: painter Joseph Stracic will present his exhibition “Manege frei" in the cell block, while artist Christine Jackob-Marks, who is based on site, will open her studio spaces. Those who wish can also take a first look at the building’s future rooms during the aperitif. Between aperitivo in the summer garden, art in former cells and high-end finger food, an evening unfolds that could happen nowhere but here.

“A summer evening full of enjoyment, art and wonderful encounters – that is exactly what this place was made for," says host Janina Atmadi. After the evening’s programme, the night can come to a stylish close at the “Fuchs & Hase" bar in the former prayer hall.
