The techno scene collides with the ivory tower. Is the tower tipping? Or does it not exist at all? ensemble unitedberlin explores the techno scene. A collaboration between composer and techno artist Tsimtsum (Konstantin Heuer) and four Berlin-based composers gives rise to a series of works for ensemble and beats. Based on a shared investigative interest in sound, colour, rhythm and spatiality, elements found both in contemporary music and electronic dance music, the project seeks to explore every possible compositional path: works for ensemble built around composed beat sequences, techno compositions based on ensemble works composed specifically for the occasion, and works created through reciprocal exchange. The central question will be: How does this exchange change the artists' thinking and creative practice? Which expectations among which audience groups will it fulfil or challenge? What will surprise us? And will we succeed in embedding techno in the context of new music without it losing its original expressive power? The programme is complemented by Tension by composer Vito uraj and an arrangement of Autobahn by electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk.
