The bassline flies through the air, a four-to-the-floor beat pounds away on the kick drum, and the percussion bounces along behind it. The singer raps and shouts, while the singer's harmonies keep this wild amalgam from exploding or shifting too far atmospherically. We once made a point of reminding ourselves that superlatives (and expletives) have no place in a concert announcement. Screw that: anyone reading this who has lost, never found, or never even sought faith in the concert as a transformative experience simply has to hear and see BCUC. With the energy of punk and the conviction of political struggle, the South Africans bring a musical mass into the concert hall, following an old funk maxim: Free your mind and your ass will follow. And this goes for music lovers and people lovers of all kinds: jazz, rave, Afro, dance, funk - there really are no good excuses not to show up!
