As one would expect, the Chuchchepati Orchestra is launching its series at Palace with an unusual trio. Orchestra manager and double bassist Patrick Kessler has been regularly performing with Viennese turntablist dieb13 in the Chuchchepati Orchestra for years. Now, for the first time, Li-Chin Li joins them: a Taiwanese sheng soloist, composer, improviser and performer with a strong grounding in both Western classical music and contemporary Chinese music. She works in the field of contemporary music performance and explores the changing role of the sheng in current practice. She understands her instrument as a kind of medium that connects sound, body, space and technological systems in collaborative contexts. Li-Chin Li views performance as an ongoing process of becoming. Her performative language emerges from the interplay between internal breath control and externally triggered physical actions. With the Chuchchepati Orchestra's Nepalese horn loudspeakers, this exciting and energetic trio will definitively shatter every conventional sense of space.
