About the party
In 2016, Lucerne pianist and composer Peter Zihlmann composed the "Beromünster Suite" on commission from the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra. The work was created as part of the interdisciplinary cultural project "SIGNAL!" and premiered at the former Beromünster national broadcasting station, a place that for decades carried Switzerland's voice far beyond the country's borders.
Zihlmann's composition explores the history and distinctive atmosphere of this place. Between remembrance and new beginnings, a musical narrative unfolds, combining historical references with contemporary jazz language. The result is a rich soundscape that offers space for improvisation as well as orchestral density.
Together with Peter Zihlmann, the Intercity Jazz Orchestra is bringing this exceptional suite back to the stage. Look forward to a concert that strikingly connects music, history and regional identity.
The band
The Intercity Jazz Orchestra (ICJO) is a big band association based in the city of Lucerne. What makes it unusual is that professionals, students and amateurs perform together, creating a distinctive atmosphere at concerts. This collaboration also makes it possible to play at an above-average level.
The band was founded in 1978 and can therefore rightly be counted among the pioneers of the Lucerne jazz scene. Many well-known Swiss musicians, including Roli von Flüe, Paul Haag, Siro Spörli, Lukas Gernet and Claudia Döffinger, have been part of the ICJO during their careers.
The ICJO is one of the very few big bands still active in Lucerne, continuing against all odds with great dedication and passion. This spirit carries over onto the stage and gives the concerts that little something special.
