Sergeant, Curbside Lambsear

Yes, yes, yes! On this early-autumn Thursday, a combination that seems as obvious as it is diverse will once again intoxicate the stage, drawing on references from the trendiest corners of last year's leftfield pop stars. Sergeant are a trio from Brussels whose work is primarily rooted in filmmaking. Benjamin Cools is a filmmaker and composer, while Ferre Marnef acts and sings alongside Geraldine Vanspauwen in the trio. Their music bears clear traces of cinema. Collaged, pieced together and narrative, their album Symbols, released in May, sounds like a film. And yet it loses none of its familiar tones and rhythms. Dubby basslines, stacky guitars and kitschy flutes - how could it be any other way? - drive the sound forward and make it wildly interesting. The whole thing was mixed by Milan W., whose concert in March 2025 will surely still be fondly remembered by more than a few people.
And since we've arrived at the promised references: the second band on this double bill is Curbside Lambsear, a new formation consisting of Magdalena McLean, who has already shared the Halbkreisbühne with the wonderful Astrid Sonne and also plays in the supergroup caroline. Together with Annabelle Mödlinger (The Umlauts) and their EP, due out in autumn, they add another jewel to this magnificent folk-alternative-pop-post-rock cosmos - one born of playful experimentation and the sheer joy of making music together.
