STUDIO CLUB: KALABRESE (ALL NIGHT LONG)

Some nights need only one artist who knows where the journey should go.

For one very special night at STUDIO Zürich, we welcome KALABRESE - one of the most influential and distinctive figures in Zurich's club and music scene. Rather than putting many names on the bill, this evening centres on one alone: KALABRESE plays ALL NIGHT LONG, giving him the space to build, reshape and continuously push his musical world throughout the night.

Behind the name KALABRESE is Zurich musician, DJ and producer Sacha Winkler. For decades, he has moved at the intersection of club culture, live music and electronic production, developing a sound that is difficult to fit into conventional genre boxes. His musical language brings together house, disco, funk, indie dance, electronica and organic rhythms - always driven by an unmistakable feel for groove and atmosphere.

His musical roots reach back a long way. Before Kalabrese became an established name in electronic music, Sacha Winkler played drums in Zurich hip-hop band Sendak. That background can still be felt today: rhythm is at the heart of his music, while influences from funk, jazz, soul and hip-hop repeatedly surface in his productions and DJ sets. In the early 2000s, he found his way fully into electronic club music. His first releases appeared on Zurich label Stattmusik, followed in 2004 by "Chicken Fried Rice", released on renowned Berlin label Perlon.

With his debut album "Rumpelzirkus", Kalabrese created a work in 2007 that defined his entirely individual musical cosmos. Minimal house, funk, folk, electronic sounds and live instruments merged into an unusual mix that attracted attention far beyond the Swiss scene. Together with his Rumpelorchester, he subsequently brought this vision to international stages and festivals - including Sonar in Barcelona and MUTEK in Montreal.

As a DJ, Kalabrese also follows a deliberately open approach. His sets are not strictly linear genre journeys, but musical explorations in which the most diverse influences can find their place. African music, funk, disco, early house, techno, indie dance and electronic sounds can intertwine. Euphoria and melancholy sit close together, while the groove always sets the direction.

It is precisely this openness that makes an ALL NIGHT LONG set with Kalabrese so special. Without the pressure of rapid line-up changes, he can take the time to tell stories, build tension and guide the dancefloor in new directions again and again. From the first warm grooves and driving disco and house moments to hypnotic, playful or unexpected sounds, anything is possible.

Kalabrese is not only an artist, but also an important part of Zurich's club history. As co-founder of legendary Club Zukunft, he played a decisive role in shaping its musical identity from 2005 onwards, influencing for years a venue that was hugely significant to the development of Zurich's nightlife culture. Through his own label Rumpelmusig, founded in 2013, he continues to pursue the idea of giving unusual and distinctive dance music a platform.

His music has never tried to follow a particular trend. Quite the opposite: Kalabrese follows his own musical logic. Sometimes warm and playful, sometimes funky and driving, sometimes melancholic and hypnotic - but always with the unmistakable Rumpel groove that has made him such a unique presence for years.

Now STUDIO belongs to him for the entire night.
